ROBERT ELKIN Haggard MAJ.
He was born in Winchester, Clark, KY, where he joined the old Kentucky State Militia, and obtained the rank of Major. In 1840 he moved his family to Winchester, Scott, IL, where in the fall of 1861 he enlisted as Captain of Company F, Illinois Volunteer Regiment, and was wounded and taken prisoner at the Battle of Shiloh in April 1862. He was a POW for abut six months in Selma, AL, until he was exchanged. His wounds totally disabled him so he was no longer active.
